19 March 2020
***Updated Friday 15th May***
Outstanding grades (not achieved in advance of 20th March) for learners that would usually have completed before 31st July 2020 will be estimated, where learners have completed 50% of assessments for the entire Access to HE Diploma in advance of 20th March 2020. If a learner had not submitted 50% of their assessments prior to 20th Match, however a Provider believes the student would have achieved the full Access to HE Diploma, Providers are encouraged to contact Certa to discuss their specific circumstances.
QAA has published a guide to grading and also documentation that Providers should use for the estimation of grades and Internal Moderation of estimated grades. These can be downloaded here:
All grades (actual and estimated) should be provided to Certa no later than 5th June 2020. Certa will issue a document for Providers to send this data. The document will be used in lieu of the Recommendation for the Award of Credit (‘RAC’) form that is usually used for the upload of student results.
Our team remain on hand and ready to provide you with any support that you may need in relation to our qualifications and assessments. We have also put together a list of the most common questions we are receiving from Providers and we will keep this updated. Should you need to speak to a member of the team call us on 01924 434601 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
How will grades be estimated?
QAA has published guidance for tutors and managers at Colleges. This can be found here.
In order to be eligible for grades to be estimated, students should have completed 50% of the assessment for the entire Access to HE Diploma by 20 March 2020. If a learner has not completed 50% of the assessment for the entire course by 20th March, we would recommend that you discuss this with Certa Access. If there is a reason that 50% had not yet been submitted, it may still be possible to estimate the remaining grades to ensure learners are able to complete the Diploma.
Can I still enrol learners onto Access to HE Diplomas?
Yes, it's business as usual. Please go ahead and register learners through the Portal.
What should I do if I have a moderation visit due?
You do not need to do anything at this stage. We have postponed all face-to-face moderation visits. A member of our team will be in touch to rearrange your moderation, and to confirm the process for quality assuring estimated grades.
Am I able to change my assessment method in light of face-to-face teaching being suspended?
For learners scheduled to finish before 31st July 2020, any remaining assessment cannot be mandatory and should be considered to be formative.
What can I tell my students?
QAA has put together a useful FAQ section on their website which we recommend you make available to students.
QAA have also published a ‘next steps for students’ page on their website, which details next steps for students that are due to finish both before and after 31st July 2020
Can I tell students their predicted grades?
We would ask that estimated grades are not shared with learners until they are confirmed by Certa Access,
When will results be published?
We will publish results once they have been subject to Certa Access’ quality assurance processes. We estimate this will be mid-July 2020.
Will there be a delay in receiving certificates?
We will do our very best to ensure you receive all certificates on time, however printing certificates requires staff to access our office, therefore we are monitoring government advice. Should there be any delays, a member of our team will let you know.
Can I still register to become a Provider?
Yes, please contact our Access to HE Team on 01924 434601 or email@example.com . They will be able to help you through the process of becoming a Provider. Our Access to HE Team are also happy to discuss your needs over the phone or via video-conferencing. To arrange an online conference call contact us.
Are you still open for business?
Unless government guidance changes we remain open for business. Our Access to HE Team are available from 09:00 to 17:00. They are on hand to assist you with any enquiries that you may have.
One final thing…
We request that you do not ask students to enquire Certa Access directly, as this will increase the amount of time that it takes for us to deal with enquiries from Providers.
